Radnor First Response Families Stand Up for Jake Abel

First Responder Spouse, and Lifelong Radnor Township, 6th Ward Resident

As the wife of a firefighter, I know what my kids and I experience when my husband goes out the door to a call. There’s a series of questions that get asked that help us decide what our next move is as a family: are we going to go about “business-as-usual” until he lets us know that he’s clear or are we going to pause from what we’re doing that day to wait until we know he’s ok?

There’s a big difference in those two options, and since we don’t get any advanced warning this has become the only way for us to prepare for how we should respond while he is responding. We could be at home doing nothing, we could be on our way to do something that the kids have been waiting all week to do, we could be just about to sit down to dinner, we could be about to leave to go on vacation when he’s called to go…we just never know and there is nothing else we can do, so we’ve learned to control this one thing that we can control: how we respond. That’s our key to survival.

Why I Am Running For Office

All elections are important but this November residents will have to decide if there needs to be balance on the Board to ensure all voices are represented or if Radnor is going to have one party system where there is no transparency and policies are rammed through without a conversation.

Sixth Ward neighbors expect and deserve a commissioner who is going to be honest with them and stand for valued principles. For the last four years, I have spoken about the values important to me – transparency in government, fiscal stewardship, public safety, and protecting township parks. I have ignored the partisanship in our local government and have represented all neighbors in the ward. Together, we have focused on our shared goals and have brought incredible, positive change to our neighborhood.

However, not everyone feels they have a voice in our community, which is concerning to me. I am running for re-election in Ward 6 to ensure everyone feels they have a voice. I am running for re-election to make sure the young family on Arbordale can be confident their children can walk safely across South Devon to Filipone Park. I am running for re-election to protect the Willows Park, and all our parks, so that future generations will be able to enjoy open spaces. I am running for re-election to ensure the retired couple on Morris Road will be able to remain in the home where they raised their family as long as they choose, and not feel they are being forced out by year-on-year tax increases.

Jake Abel and Family

And, most importantly, I am running for re-election to teach our four boys – Noah, Eli, Benny, and Adam – the importance of public service and doing everything possible to make your community better for the next generation of leaders.

The last four years have truly been an honor and I want to thank Ward 6 neighbors for this wonderful opportunity. Kristie and I appreciate the kindness you have shown our family and we are grateful for all the new friendships made during this process.

On November 2nd, I hope to earn your trust and your vote for re-election. We are One Radnor!

Values and Positions

Radnor Township is a wonderful community to live and raise a family, but that does not mean there are not areas
we can strive to improve for future generations. My vision is based on the core principles of stewardship, values, and transparency.  In the months ahead, I will continue to raise issues that matter to you.
